Cahors is really the world’s leading region for fine Malbec. Yet mature examples from the region’s best estates would usually cost somewhere between £20-30 per bottle. Chateau du Cèdre, without doubt a top estate, also produces this ‘Cahors for beginners’. It is big, bold and brambly but without the tannins that make so much of this region’s produce, wines for the long haul. This is the perfect lunchtime wine, vital, fresh and fruity but with enough grip to enjoy with steak frites.
